Recent developments in CAD software and materials combine to create components that are light and strong, and this means complex shapes and thin or high strength materials.

Dual phase and trip steels present difficult challenges from the work hardening properties during forming; aluminium and stainless materials having low elongation and high recovery (springback) are also problematic.

Partial or full simulation of suites of tools are the best way to address these component types, so problem areas are quickly identified and processes easily rearranged before full designs are created and material cut.
